HSG-aphobia

hello, my name is carlia and i'm an HSG-aphobic.

tomorrow morning is my HSG. i know i should have had this done years ago, but finances being what they were prevented that. now i'm stuck with the guilt from not having it done already and the fear of the unknown. i'm actually terrified of having this done. i understand the basic concept of what they'll be doing, but i'm a big wuss when it comes to pain and i've heard some people talk about how excruciating it was. i'm fighting back the urge to google it, because i'm sure i'll find about a thousand horror stories that will just confirm my fears. so, until it's over, i'll just have to find my happy place.
(i grew up on a small ranch in central texas and this is almost identical to the view from my back porch)

for the sake of my sanity, please tell me that you had at least an okay experience during your HSG!

Hey Carlia...Unlike you, no one told me what to expect with my HSG(I wasn't blogging at the time so I had no context for anything I was doing!). I see you grew up on a ranch with a gorgeous view, so perhaps you spent a lot of time around horses...if you've ever been kicked in the stomach by a horse (I have), this is exactly what it felt like for me. So, I won't lie, it was a shock, but the good news is that just like a horse-kick, it's very quick and then it's over. I wouldn't call it excruciating - just a sudden dull pain (I was so surprised, I exclaimed, "WHOA!" when they injected the solution). Definitely not the worst physical pain of my life by a long stretch. I'll bet you'll be just fine.

Love,
Maddy

The HSG is all hype. When its over, you will seriously be like "is that it?!?"

Don't even worry, its about on par with a pap smear. Afterwards you'll have some menstrual cramping, but its not worse than your period and they'll only last a few hours.

Good luck hun!

It's not that bad and you get to watch what they are doing on a TV screen! Don't worry too much about it!

Ill be straight with you it does hurt. It isn't horrible though. By the time you think ok this hurts are you done they are. It only last a few minutes. You'll Bleed most likely and you'll cramp a lot. The day after is the worst cramping then it gets better. It helps if you just lay low and relax. You can do it. Hang in there!

I'm being completely honest when I tell you that mine was pretty much painless. I had VERY mild cramping for about 30 seconds, and that was it. I didn't have ANY pain or discomfort at all after it was over. I've had worse cramps during AF. I read all the horror stories, and I've seen women say that it was horrible, but I didn't have that AT ALL. I took Ibuprofen about an hour or so before my procedure and that probably helped. The actual procedure itself is over in just a few minutes.

You'll do just fine...don't stress over it!

My HSG was no big deal. A slight discomfort and pressure, but it was done and over with so fast, I felt sill after words for being so freaked out. My tubes are wide open, so it was good news too!

Good luck and I'll be thinking of you! I hope it goes as smoothly as mine did...
