Change of Plans

i mentioned before that i'm going to make the crib bedding myself. well, that's still the plan. what isn't part of the plan anymore is the crib bumper. after reading this article on cnn, B and i decided that the increase in the risk of SIDS that particular piece of the bedding brings isn't worth the aesthetic.

i have to admit that i'm a little relieved. that was the one part of the bedding that really intimidated me. either way, the bedding is going to be fan-freaking-tastic and beyond adorable! i just know it!

You can buy these plain breathable ones...not very pretty...but still you a bumper without increasing the risk for sids. Or so I read. When I saw the girl bedding picture...I thought you were gonna say they got the gender wrong and they think its a girl! hahah

It's amazing how something that seems like it would help protect your baby has the potential to be so harmful!! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Bumpers are illegal here, they don't even sell them any more....I can't wait to see your finished product...I thought I was talented painting pin stripes on the walls of the nursery and stripping and staining the dresser and changing table/desk...you go way above and beyond!!!

Sounds like a good idea... I didn't realise until just before our toddler arrived that there was an issue with them either. I admire you so much for thinking of making all this yourself... amazing :)) xoxo

Good for you for making everything yourself. I have a 5 year old and there was no bumper on his crib - too much controversy with them for my liking!

I opted out of the regular bumper and got a breathable bumper instead. I would have completely gone without but I heard their arms can get stuck in the rails so this helps while still being safe. I can't wait to see how the bedding turns out!
