Semi-Single Parenting

three weeks since my last post?!? there's really no excuse. the worst of it, though, is that it's been that long since i've even read (let alone comment on) other blogs or even logged onto facebook. where does the time go???

i could blame it all on the fact that B is only able to be a weekend father, since he's been back in RI since mack was a week old, not to mention the fact that his contract up there has been extended past the year mark, but i won't. all it really boils down to is a lack of time management.

you see, between all the feedings, diaper changes, laundry, and other baby-related duties, i've been working on tons (lots of baby photo shoots, designed mack's birth announcement, made mack's bedding, made some fun things to hang in the nursery, made my own headboard, currently working on throw pillows, revamping lamps & an old book shelf) of projects, most of which i'll be turning into how-to posts on here. (do y'all mind that i've decided to make my crafting a bigger part of my blog?)

but how is it really going here, is probably what you're wondering. it's amazing! i'm a little bit sleep deprived, a little starved for company, a little bit up to my ears in diapers, a little neglectful of my looks at the moment (i'm talking ponytails every day - yuk!), and a lot in love.

i'm not going to lie, parenting is tough and parenting mostly on your own is even tougher. i have such admiration for women who are forced to do it all on their own, especially all those military wives whose husbands aren't able to come home on the weekends like mine does, who face that mountain of diapers and that daunting feeding schedule all by themselves on a daily basis.

i long for the weekends with B, which is when i get the most done. having someone to take a turn changing a diaper, giving mack a bottle, waking up for the 5am feeding, and holding him when he insists on napping in your arms frees up so much time and gives me just enough rest to help rejuvenate me for the coming week. i can't wait for B to be home full time again.

i just really need to figure out this whole time management thing. i've got to learn how to accomplish it all and still fit my social networking in. any tips?

and since you lasted through all of that droning on, you've earned a picture of mack!

Ohmygoodness he is beautiful!! I don't know how you are doing this by yourself- I would be lost without Steve at night. You are so strong!! Hang in there mama, it's almost Friday!

Seriously, he just looks so sweet and heavenly! My mom always says that when the baby comes you basically have a new boss, I guess it's kind of true.
I think you are doing great job and you will figure out how to get it all done!

OH my gosh - I love love love him. He is gorgeous!!!

Glad to hear from you - I figured you were buried in diapers and bottles, but nice to know that all is going well. :)

Do you have a swing? We've finally figured out that putting Stella in hers while she is drowsy (and turning it on HIGH) means she'll stare at the mobile a bit and then sleep in there. I then run around like a mad woman to start laundry, clean the kitchen, etc.

I've also perfected the art of blogging while she sleeps in my lap. I put my boppy around my waist, she falls asleep snuggled up to me on it, and my laptop is balanced on my thighs (the foot of the recliner is out to keep my legs up). SHe's so small still I can just reach over her.

Good luck!! Can't wait to see more pics. :)

He's worth it all, huh? Just relax and know that it gets easier with time. They are soooo demanding at this stage and the constant feeding and napping takes up every little bit of your time. As he gets older he will nap more and be able to entertain himself with toys and you will have more spare time. Stinks that B has to stay in RI for longer.

Im excited to see all of your projects!!

I love your pictures....I would love to see all of your photo shoots....and would take any pointers...Raegan can only put up with them for about 15 min at a time.

I agree with Josey. The swing is one of my best friends. Although, I have found I can read blogs and write while holding Raegan. Sometimes I read them out loud to her and she smiles and coos to them. It's easiest when she's sleeping.

I do a lot of reading on my phone. It's smaller and easier to balance while I'm feeding or pumping or some other form of multitasking.

And since introducing the play mat, she spends about 15 min there before falling asleep. I get some dishes and cleaning done while she's entertaining and stimulating her self there.

It's not easy to get it all done, and to be doing it all on your own during the week has got to be tough. I hope B gets to come home for good soon. My husband is so exhausted when he gets home from work, we eat dinner and he goes to bed or dozes in the recliner while I clean up and take care of the baby. On the weekends he's got a little more energy.

Glad to hear you're accomplishing so much. All I get done is laundry and cleaning. No new projects. That's too ambitious for me :) Can't wait to see your projects!

Take care!

Wow. You are so amazingly busy! I honestly don't know how you fit all the rest of it into just keeping up with little mack!!

And, OMG. What a cutie-pie. And, that picture is just gorgeous.

It sucks that B's still stuck in RI!

Awww, so sweet, what a cutie!!! Would love some pointers on doing a baby photo shoot... and have no advice for life with a newborn and everything else we did before that life, lol. We have started moving toward more of a routine but, as someone said above, baby is boss! :]

He is so precious!! It's hard work being a new mama and I know you are rockin' it!! I was thinking B's year should be winding down here in a few months...apparently not huh? That stinks. Just keep doing what you're dong and it will get easier!! Hugs to you and that adorable baby boy! If you want to come out and visit I'll let you take naps while we entertain mack and I promise to do the cooking and cleaning too :)
