oh, that boy! he really is the best thing that ever happened to me. he's always been a really pleasant baby, but now he is just exuberant!
he used to be so stingy with his laughs, but not they come readily. he thinks everything is so hilarious, from the silly songs i make up to the way i smell his feet and pretend to gag. apparently, he thinks i'm quite the comedian, though he's the only one. ;)
after days of excessive drooling and irritability, mack cut his first tooth the day he turned 6 months (while we were in utah). the second came in about a week later. boy, am i glad that's over and we have a short reprieve before the next phase of teething!
he's also become completely mobile. scooting is a thing of the past. he now crawls all over the living room, all over my bed, all over his crib, and all over the blanket i lay in the backyard for him. he's so active, never content to sit still.
this has also made diaper changes a bit of a challenge. he is lighting fast flipping over and trying to crawl away with his diaper dangling off the one leg i was able to secure it around. i've taken to distracting him with toys and my cell phone. it works about 50% of the time.
mack has also discovered his voice. well, not his voice, as he's been chatty for months. no, he has discovered his volume and oh, the fun he has, starting out grunting quietly then switching to an ear-piercing squeal. the tone and volume at which he "sings" may make him a candidate for the austrian boys choir in a few years.
he still loves his johnny jump-up and could spend forever in it, but he now loves his exersaucer almost as much. he discovered the buttons that play music and loves to jump around in his seat whenever he hears it. his "dancing" is completely off rhythm, but hilarious to watch!
he was a total champ at his 6 month check-up! he barely cried when he got his shots and he was pretty much right at the 50th percentile in size, weighing in at 17lbs 9oz and measuring 27". he got a clean bill of health and the doctor said he looks absolutely perfect. YAY!
|like any good mother, i grabbed for the camera|
the train ride was 45 minutes, the first half of which the engine was at our end and kept blowing it's ridiculously loud whistle every five minutes. i've never seen mack cry so hard! it was heart-breaking! he was so terrified, but when it switched to the other end, he was happy as a clam and enjoyed the rest of the ride with a smile on his face.
this has been a big month for the father-son relationship, too. mack is completely enamored with B. every time he sees him, he just lights up. he loves for B to be the one to get him out of his crib in the morning and drinks his milk better for him than anyone else. he loves to pet his daddy's beard and thinks it's pretty great when B balances him sitting on the palm of one hand. i, on the other hand, don't think it's such a cool trick. i have this mental image of mack falling on his head every time. but...i have to let go and let them develop their bond in their own way.
6 months has been such a fun age! it's amazing how interactive he's become and his personality is really starting to shine. he's still my chill little guy, but i think he's going to have a great sense of humor. i can't wait to see what he's like at 1 year old! i am completely in love with this boy!
